Colorado State Fair Honoring Long-Time Horse Breeder with Ribbon-Cutting of Renovated Barn

PUEBLO, Colo. – During this year’s Colorado State Fair, long-time horse breeder and booster Mildred Janowitz will be honored at the ribbon-cutting of a renovated horse barn to mark her contributions to the Fair. The ribbon-cutting will be held on the first day of the Fair, Friday, Aug. 24, at 10 a.m. at the barn, which is located in the Fair’s Horse Show Complex.

The Janowitz’ developed some of the best Quarter Horses and Palominos from their Horse Patch Farms near Franktown, Colo. Janowitz registered her first American Quarter Horse in 1948. She left a $100,000 gift to the Colorado State Fair to be used to improve the horse-show facilities. The Fair used that, along with money from the State, the Colorado State Fair Foundation, and W-W Livestock, to completely renovate the Fair’s existing horse barn, located south of the covered horse-show arena. The project, begun in June of this year, replaced all the old wooden stalls with modern steel ones, brought better water service, electricity and lighting to the 50-stall barn. The barn was also enclosed, making it especially desirable for horse-show competitors at the Fair and during the Fairground’s other yearly horse events.

“After all she has done for us over the years, it was great to be able to do something for her,” Horse Show Coordinator Lindsay Wadhams said of the project. “It lets us showcase her dedication to the Fair.”

The Colorado State Fair runs August 24 – September 3, 2018.  For more information, visitwww.coloradostatefair.com.
