Sand Earns MOP in Horsemanship as Golden Eagles Fall 10-3 to Baylor

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian was defeated by Baylor University 10-3 in Fresno, Calif. The Golden Eagles won three points and tied three points against the Bears. UMN Crookston was guided by Belle Sand (So., Spicer, Minn.), who made it back-to-back MOP (Most Outstanding Performance) honors, as she earned it in horsemanship.

The Golden Eagles fell to 0-6 in NCEA play this season. Baylor improved to 5-5 with the win.

Sand defeated Gianna Pozzi on Luke 75.5-73 in order to earn a point and win MOP accolades. Alex Pfaffenbach (Jr., Appleton, Wis.) set a personal best and won her first NCEA point ever with a 79-78 win over Madison Mitchell on Dublin in fences. Josie Mills (So., Brandon, S.D.) also picked up the point with an 80-77 victory over Lauren Jorgensen on Beau in Fences. Mills also set a personal-best tally.

Keira Boedigheimer (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned the tie against Madeline Vorhies on Carl in flat. Sand also earned a tie in reining against Jenna Meimerstorf on JD. In horsemanship, Ashlyn Montague (Fr., Draper, Utah) fell just shy of getting the point against Gabrielle Marty on Ronnie 76-75. The 75 was a personal-best score for Montague.

The Golden Eagles are set to compete against South Dakota State University and Delaware State University next weekend in Brookings, S.D.
