BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team fell 14-1 to South Dakota State University Saturday, October 15 at DeHaan Equestrian Center in Brookings, S.D. The Golden Eagles are 0-3 during the 2022-23 NCEA slate.
Minnesota Crookston was guided by Olivia Becker (Sr., Deer Park, Wis.), who defeated Paige Wellendorf on Marley in horsemanship to earn a point for the Golden Eagles.
In fences, Keira Boedigheimer (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a narrow 83-80 loss to Samantha Hunsecker on Snowy. Julianna Gullo (Fr., Itasca, Ill.) had a close match with Cali Karbler on Eddie but fell 76-68.
In flat, Gullo fell in a narrow battle with Julia Werkhoven on Enrique.
The Golden Eagles had a strong showing in horsemanship. Fahren Kolpack (Jr., Ontonagon, Mich.) fell 73.5-68 to Callyn Fox on George. Ashlyn Montague (Fr., Draper, Utah) had a strong ride but was defeated 77.5-74.5 to Shelby Cochran on GW. Belle Sand (So., Spicer, Minn.) also had a strong showing, but fell by 1.5 points to Annika Hanson.
In reining, Sand and Paige Butterfield tied 68-68 on Bunny. Montague had another strong ride but fell 73-68.5 to Lydia Loken on Lucy. Becker had a good ride but was defeated 71.5-68 by Cassandra Townsend on Jellybean. Kolpack fell 71.5-68.5 to Isabelle Riggs on Lash.
The Golden Eagles next NCEA meet will be February 2 at the University of California-Davis in Davis, Calif.
