Minnesota Crookston Equestrian Opens Up ECAC Championship Thursday Against Delaware State


 – The University of Minnesota Crookston Equestrian Team will make their inaugural appearance in the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Equestrian Championship March 24-26 at Quillen Arena at the State Fairgrounds in Harrington, Del.

The Golden Eagles will begin competing in the NCEA meet Thurs, March 24 as they face-off with three-seed Delaware State University beginning at 9:30 a.m. UMN Crookston is the six-seed in the tournament. The winner of Thursday’s match-up will advance to take on SMU, the No. 1 seed, Friday, March 25. Also competing will be No. 4 seed Cal Davis, No. 5 seed South Dakota State, and No. 2 seed Tennessee Martin.

Minnesota Crookston was 0-4 (0-3 ECAC) in NCEA competitions this season. The Golden Eagles were led by Olivia Becker (Sr., Deer Park, Wis.) with wins over South Dakota State March 11 in Horsemanship and Reining. Becker also had a victory in Horsemanship over Tennessee-Martin March 12.

Against South Dakota State February 18, UMN Crookston picked up a win in Fences from Morgan Schelske (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.). Kendra Putzke (Jr., Esko, Minn.) won a point in Flat over SDSU. Becker had a victory in Horsemanship and Reining on February 18 against the Jackrabbits, as well.

Minnesota Crookston was propelled by Ashton Wold (Jr., Devils Lake, N.D.) with a win in Reining over TCU October 29.
