Minnesota Crookston Western Equestrian Took High Point Team Friday and Saturday at NDSU Meet

FARGO, N.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston western equestrian team earned High Point Team honors last Friday and Saturday, with April Klecker (Sr., Amboy, Minn.) earning High Point rider accolades Friday and Tristyn Bair (Sr., Winnebago, Minn.) notching Reserve High Point rider honors Saturday. The Golden Eagles competed in the three-day event hosted by North Dakota State University Friday, November 19, Saturday, November 20, and Sunday, November 21.

The Golden Eagles opened up Friday’s show with Klecker placing first on Casha in Open Reining. Olivia Becker (Sr., Deer Park, Wis.) finished seventh. In Open Horsemanship, Becker had a great ride to take first on Don Julio. Klecker took third on Willy, Ashton Wold (Jr., Devils Lake, N.D.) finished fifth on Bebe, while Belle Sand (Fr., Spicer, Minn.) took sixth on Bebe.

In Level II Ranch Riding, Bair took seven on ForSale. In Level II Horsemanship, Beatrice Streifel (Sr., Hawley, Minn.) had a strong ride to take second on Dezi, while Bair placed third on Piper.

In Level I Horsemanship, Fahren Kolpack (So., Ontonagon, Mich.) had a strong ride to take second on Button, with Rebecca Clark (Sr., Austin, Minn.) coming in a close third on Sunset. Jessica Vinger (Fr., Dodgeville, Wis.) took seventh on Slick.

In Rookie B Horsemanship, Zoey Haas (So., Farmington, Minn.) led the way for the Golden Eagles as she took second on Broker. Savanna Weber (Sr., Silver Lake, Minn.) finished fourth on Brandy, while Eliza Freund (Fr., Cando, N.D.) took fifth on Broker.

In Rookie A Horsemanship, Taylor Opitz (Fr., Sioux Falls, S.D.) paced UMN Crookston by taking first on Zip, while Grace Meyers (Jr., Fairmont, Minn.) took fourth on Blackie. In Beginner Horsemanship, Hannah Fitzsimmons (Jr., Barnum, Minn.) placed fourth on Don Julio, while Jenna Pedrow (So., Blaine, Minn.) took sixth on Spotlight.

The Golden Eagles looked to continue their positive momentum from Friday’s show into Saturday. Klecker started things out by taking first in Open Reining. Becker finished sixth on Supercat.

In Open Horsemanship, Wold led the way by taking second on Don Julio. Sand finished third on Don Julio, with Klecker taking fourth on Lily, and Becker finishing fifth on Piper.

In Level II Ranch Riding, Bair paced the Golden Eagles with a third-place finish on Dezi. In Level II Horsemanship, Bair had a great ride as she finished first on Button. Streifel followed by taking third on Lily.

In Level I Horsemanship, Kolpack led the way by taking second on Piper, Clark took fourth on Magic, while Vinger finished sixth on Hunter.

In Rookie B Horsemanship, Haas paced UMN Crookston with a second-place finish on Broker. Weber took fifth on Scooter, while Freund finished seventh on Walter.

In Rookie A Horsemanship, Meyers finished third on Cope, while Opitz took fourth on Cope. The day was rounded out in Beginner Horsemanship with Pedrow claiming a win on Don Julio, and Fitzsimmons taking fourth on Don Julio.

On Sunday, the Golden Eagles opened the day with Open Reining as Klecker finished fifth on Blondie, while Becker took seventh on Vibe. In Open Horsemanship, Becker led the way by taking second on Willy. Klecker finished third on Slick. Sand and Wold each placed fifth in their sections.

In Level II Ranch Riding, Bair finished sixth on Supercat. In Level II Horsemanship, Streifel took third on Don Julio, while Bair finished fifth on Scooter.

In Level I Horsemanship, Kolpack paced UMN Crookston by taking second on Supercat, while Vinger finished fourth on Dezi.

In Rookie B Horsemanship, Haas finished fourth on Slick. Freund took fifth on Pearl, while Meyers took sixth on Hunter.

In Rookie A Horsemanship, Pedrow had a strong ride to finish second on Cope, while Opitz took third on Buddy.

The Golden Eagles will wrap up the 2021 calendar year as they head to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls December 4 and 5.
