Minnesota Crookston Jumping Seat Equestrian Takes High Point Honors Saturday

JORDAN, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston jumping seat equestrian team competed in a pair of meets hosted by Gustavus Adolphus College and the University of Wisconsin-River Falls at Golden Gate Equestrian Center in Jordan, Minn. The Golden Eagles won high point team honors Saturday, with Morgan Schelske (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.) taking High Point Rider and Alexandra Wentland earning Reserve High Point Rider. Sunday, UMN Crookston was guided by Kendra Putzke (Jr., Esko, Minn.) winning High Point Rider honors.

Saturday’s meet opened up with a strong showing for the Golden Eagles in Open Fences. Keira Boedigheimer (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) had a great ride on Leon, taking first. Schelske followed suit with a second-place finish on Leon, while Taylor Barlage (Sr., New Prague, Minn.) took fourth on Carl. In Intermediate Fences, Katie Buttolph (Sr., Yankton, S.D.) had a fantastic ride on Phia, while Josie Mills (Fr., Brandon, S.D.) took second on Luke.

In Limit Fences section one, Putzke had a great ride and took second, while Katie Orth (Sr., Randall, Minn.) finished fifth on Charley. In Limit Fences section two, Wentland took second while riding on Houston.

In Open Flat, Schelske had a great ride on Sully, taking first. Boedigheimer took second on Leon, while Barlage finished third on Luke.

In Intermediate Flat, Orth had a fantastic ride on Houston and finished first. Buttolph followed suit and finished second.

In Limit Flat section one, Gabriella Siefkes (Fr., Aberdeen, S.D.) had a great ride and took first on Maine. Putzke finished fourth on Mr. President. In Limit Flat section two, Wentland finished first on Carl.

In Novice Flat section one, Kaitlyn Fedewa (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) had a strong ride and took second on Quentin, while Alex Pfaffenbach (Jr., Appleton, Wis.) finished fourth on Phia. In section two, Isabella Anderson (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) finished fourth on Maine.

In Pre-Novice Flat section one, Samantha Strader (Fr., Winsted, Minn.) took fifth on Wilker. In section two, Andrea Kuhl (Fr., Whitewater, Wis.) finished third on Dilly.

In Walk/Trot setion one, Ashleigh Lueder (So., Rochester, Minn.) had a great ride and finished first on Tanner. In section two, Delainey Lancaster (So., Watertown, S.D.) took fifth on Captain.

Minnesota Crookston looked to build on great successes heading into Sunday’s show.

Sunday’s show started out with a great ride by Clara Lemarr (Fr., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) in Open Fences, with Lemarr taking first on Carl. Schelske finished second on Leon, while Barlage took fourth on Carl.

In Intermediate Fences, Mills took third on Capone.

In Limit Fences section one, Putzke had an outstanding ride to finish first on Quentin. In section two, Orth took third on Wordsworth, while Wentland finished sixth on Louie.

In Open Flat, Lemarr continued a strong day by taking second on Belle. Barlage took third on C-Max, while Schelske finished fourth on Luke.

In Intermediate Flat, Mills took second on Carl. Orth placed fourth on C-Max, while Buttolph took fifth on Carson.

In Limit Flat section one, Putzke had a great ride to take first on Luke, while Fedewa finished third on Mr. President. In section two, Siefkes took third on Mr. President, while Wentland finished sixth on Houston.

In Novice Flat, Pfaffenbach had a great ride to finish first on Carson.

In Pre-Novice Flat section one, Kuhl took third on Archie. In section two, Strader finished third on Mr. President.

In Walk/Trot section one, Lueder had a great ride and took first on Maple. In section two, Lancaster finished fifth on Maple.

The jumping seat team will have their next competition Feb. 5 and 6 against North Dakota State University in Fargo, N.D.
