Muddy Creek Saloon was Robbed

Muddy Creek Saloon was Robbed By Mounted Thieves Dressed in Black
Five riders paced nervously ‘round the bend;
Now, what message would their black attire send?
The sun was beating down, on their black hats;
‘Made us think they were low-down, dirty rats.
Not locals, they must have been commuters …
With each wearing expensive ‘six-shooters.’
One retied the holster lacing to his leg;
Would this village become a powder-keg?

      LEAD WAS ABOUT TO FLY
We saw that sneer, of ‘Slippery’ Smith;
We’d judge his character by those he’s with.
There was ‘Blackjack’ Jones, with a mustached face;
While his nervous horse continued to pace.
And the shifty eyes of that unknown guy;
We townsfolk worried what this gang would try.
It seemed like this town, today, was haunted;
By faces, from the posters of the ‘wanted.’

     IT TAKES A WORRIED TOWN TO SING A WORRIED SONG
Each, who saw them, feared to ask them to go;
They seemed to be strangers, we didn’t know.
But, we couldn’t warn the town of this gang;
Soon, the sounds of several gunshots rang.
‘Seems all five had quickly dismounted;
But, there were now six.  We had miscounted.
One stood alone, all six horses holding
This was an infamous day unfolding.

      THE EXCHANGE OF GUNFIRE
The outlaws came running out of the bar,
The Muddy Creed Saloon door was ajar.
Someone else had a ‘peacemaker’ that spoke;
But a gunslinger returned fire and smoke.
Everyone was hiding and out of sight,
We know they were peeking at this gunfight.
Their ‘loot’ was stuffed into a saddlebag;
But, this theft would carry a ‘high-price-tag!’

     IT “WAS” A QUIET TOWN
The ‘lead’ flew until just one was standing,
His money back he was now demanding!
But, the townfolk, suddenly reappeared;
With a collective roar as they all cheered!
The thieves lying slumped over on the street;
With a big grin, they got back on their feet.
Yes, The Almont1 townsfolk put on that ‘show’;
Next year2 these actors will be ready to go!
