Lighted Horse Parade Attracts a Huge Crowd

Pelican Rapids, Minn. Held their annual Lighted Horse Parade starting at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 25, 2016.  Twenty-six units participated in the parade this year.

Each year the Pelican Rapids Chamber of Commerce sponsors the Lighted Horse Parade the day after Thanksgiving as their way to kick off the holiday season.

Local downtown businesses stay open late and serve Christmas delights of apple cider, hot chocolate, beer, wine and assorted delicacies while shoppers look around at all the products for sale.

Decorated streets lighted for the holiday season line the parade route .  Local police block Broadway through Pelican Rapids while the horse units drive through the main streets of the city. The parade route includes a turn-around-the-block and a repeat run through downtown so everyone gets a good chance to see the units each of which are sponsored by a local or regional business.

The parade traditionally ends with Santa driving a mini horse waving and wishing all a Merry Christmas.
