YOUNG WHIPPERSNAPPER IN A HORSE RACE

By Orv Alveshere

FASTEST HORSE OUT OF A TURN
Ev’ry rodeo’s racing course
Was won by G’s fast sorrel horse.
Those dusty race tracks they did burn,
Stretching his lead at every turn.
His trained cutting horse, I did ride;
His secret strength, I will confide.
‘Twas due to his excessive ‘lean’;
The leaningest ‘lean’, I’d ever seen!

CHALLENGED TO A STRAIGHT RACE
H complained,  ”In this 5 lap race
I never get to see your face.
My horse could beat yours, any day;
If you would race, a straightaway,
Let’s go down to the County Fair;
Our challenge could be settled there!”
Two of them were the only show.
There’s a secret you should know.

ND BRONC RIDING CHAMP
Not a riding slouch, that H guy;
Top State Award will tell you why.
He’s bronc riding champ of that state.
He’d rode the meanest reprobate!
He had often been on G’s horse.
G was the famed ‘pickup man’, of course.
That sorrel horse, often saved H’s hide;
Now, would be racing by his side.

THAT’S WHY THEY HAVE HORSE RACES
So, “OFF” to get those bragging rights;
Two ponies raced with all their might.
Around turns, H swung wide his whip;
Swung quirt near to G’s horse’s lip!
G urged his pony to move on;
But wouldn’t move past H’s wild wand.
Then, G saw TWO horse’s patoots!
And ONE, he thought, needed a boot!

REVERSE THE GOLDEN RULE/RIDING ON SPECTATOR SIDE
Side by side, near the finish line;
Was vict’ry to be his or mine?
At 40 miles per hour, they’d ride;
At finish line, they’re side by side.
The Golden Rule’s for me (and you),
H’s prank would soon receive his due.
Concealed, the jerked rein, slowed him down.
That’s how G’s horse won the County Down!
