UMN Crookston Western Equestrian Earns Reserve High Point Team Sunday

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston western equestrian team hosted a pair of home shows Saturday, February 20 and Sunday, February 21 at the University Teaching and Outreach Center (UTOC). The Golden Eagles competed against the University of Minnesota and North Dakota State University. UMN Crookston earned reserve high point team honors on Sunday. Alyssa Evavold (Sr., Battle Lake, Minn.) earned High Point Rider during Saturday’s show, while Olivia Becker (Jr., Deer Park, Wis.) was named Reserve High Point Rider on Sunday.

Saturday’s show started off by Evavold putting on a great pattern to earn first place in the Reining, while Jordyn Newberg (Sr., Deer River, Minn.) placed third and April Klecker (Jr., Amboy, Mich.) fourth. In Open Horsemanship section one, Evavold took home another first-place finish, while Newberg placed fourth. The Golden Eagles continued their strong showing in Open Horsemanship as Rae Ann Michel (Sr., Monticello, Minn.) placed first in section one, followed closely behind by Becker in second.

Savanna Weber (Jr., Silver Lake, Minn.) had a great ride in Rookie A Horsemanship on Saturday to place first. Fahren Kolpack (So., Ontanagon, Mich.) continued the success as she placed first in Rookie B Horsemanship, followed by Zoey Haas (Fr., Farmington, Minn.) in second place. The Golden Eagles were guided by Tristyn Bair (Jr., Winnebago, Minn.) in Level I Horsemanship with a second-place finish, while Beatrice Streifel (Jr., Hawley, Minn.) took third. UMN Crookston finished out the day with Kayley Silva (Fr., Courtland, Minn.) taking second in Beginner Horsemanship followed by Grace Meyers (So., Fairmont, Minn.) in third, and Jenna Pedrow (Fr., Blaine, Minn.) in fourth.

North Dakota State University earned High Point Team honors for the day, followed by the University of Minnesota as the Reserve High Point Team.

The Golden Eagles built on their successes from day one and looked to have a strong second day on Sunday. Newberg started out section one of Reining by taking second, followed by Adrianne Schaunaman (Sr., Aberdeen, S.D.) in third. In the second section of Reining, Becker placed second followed by Evavold in third, and Michel in fourth. In Level II Ranch riding, Streifel finished fourth for the Golden Eagles.

Michel got UMN Crookston off to a great start in Horsemanship by placing first in Open Horsemanship section one, followed by Evavold in third. The Golden Eagles continued their success in section two as Becker continued a strong day by taking first, followed by Schaunaman in third, and Klecker in fourth. In Rookie A Horsemanship, Weber took third for the Golden Eagles.

Minnesota Crookston was led in Rookie B Horsemanship by Ally Eblen (Fr., Belgrade, Minn.) who took second. In Beginner Horsemanship, Pedrow led the way with a third-place finish, while Meyers took fourth. Bair rounded things out for the Golden Eagles by taking second in Level I Horsemanship.

North Dakota State University was named the High Point Team on Sunday, followed by UMN Crookston.

The Golden Eagles return to action with a pair of NCEA doubleheaders February 25 and February 26 against South Dakota State University and Delaware State University in Brookings, S.D.
