UMC Equestrian Falls 11-5 to South Dakota State in NCEA Match
BROOKINGS, S.D. – The University of Minnesota Crookston equestrian team fell 11-5 to South Dakota State University in a National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) match last Friday in Brookings, S.D. Cathy Ackroyd (Sr., Spirit Lake, Iowa) would earn Most Outstanding Player (MOP) in the Reining divisions. An MOP is chosen by the judge between the two teams from each class, Horsemanship, Reining, Equitation on the Flat and Equitation over Fences.
“Even though we fell 11-5, I could not have been happier with every competitors rides,” said Head Coach Kayla Krueger. “Scores were extremely close across the board. We had numerous riders competing for their first time out in the NCEA format. Both teams have three NCEA competitions in the Spring and I am confident these riders will bring their ‘A’ game with additional time to prepare and further experience under their belt.
Mazie Pini won her match over her SDSU opponent scoring 84 on her test in Equitation on the Flat. Megan Motter (So., Cooperstown, N.D.) would win her exhibition match scoring a 72 on her test in Equitation on the Flat after drawing a challenging horse. Selena Young (So., Plymouth, Minn.) would take her match with a score of 80 on her course in Equitation Over Fences on a challenging horse. Katie Warner (Jr., Warba, Minn.) would win her match with a 73 on her horsemanship pattern. Ackroyd would take her match scoring a 72.5 on her Reining pattern. Warner would also take her match with a 68.5 on her reining pattern.
