UHC Announces New Non-Profit Membership

(Washington, DC)- The Unwanted Horse Coalition (UHC) is pleased to announce a new way for equine rescues, sanctuaries and care facilities to become involved with the UHC through its new Non-Profit Membership.

“The UHC recognizes the need to provide access to resources and information for equine care facilities, rescues, and sanctuaries around the country,” said UHC Director Ashley Furst. “As such, we have created a Nonprofit Membership for these types of organizations that wish to be a part of the UHC, at a very minimal cost.  Members should be organizations that are actively committed to advocating for ‘Owning Responsibly,’ organizations that strive to provide collaborative partnerships with the horse industry, and be a registered 501(c)(3). The UHC is unique in its industry wide collaboration efforts, adding ‘boots-on-the-ground’ organizations will further help us in our mission to help horses in the United States.”

Membership benefits include a $100 Operation Gelding Voucher, an invitation to attend the UHC’s Annual meeting each June, as well as membership to A Home for Every Horse and Equine.com.

“This new membership program helps combined the efforts of A Home for Every Horse’s and the Unwanted Horse Coalition. The two organizations partnership thrives off of the importance of our combined efforts to educate the horse industry regarding the unwanted horse population and responsible horse ownerships,” said Amanda Bodkin, A Home for Every Horse’s program coordinator.

“The UHC is grateful for A Home for Every Horse’s longstanding partnership and support of the UHC,” continued Furst. “We know that equine organizations will be thankful for the incredible benefits they are offering as a part of the non-profit membership!”

About the Unwanted Horse Coalition

The Unwanted Horse Coalition represents a broad alliance of equine organizations that have joined together to educate the horse industry about the unwanted horse issue.

The UHC was a direct result of the Unwanted Horse Summit, which was organized by the American Association of Equine Practitioners and held in conjunction with the American Horse Council’s annual meeting in Washington, D.C., in April 2005. The summit was held to bring key stakeholders together to start a dialogue on the plight of the unwanted horse, defined as any horse no longer wanted by its current owner. Operating under the American Horse Council Foundation, the UHC provides resources to prospective owners, current owners, rehoming facilities, and industry leaders in its effort to encourage responsible ownership.
