Horse Park to host new Harvest Festival
Fargo- The North Dakota Horse Park will host the first ever Harvest Festival at The Horse Park, Oct. 8th. The event intends to educate and entertain Fargo-Moorhead residents through interactives, games and displays. “Many kids don’t know where their food comes from, many adults are in the same boat. We really think the Horse Park is the perfect venue for a country setting that’s really right next door” says, Horse Park General Manager Mike Schmitz. “It’s exciting to host another great event that will grow annually like our other flagship events the Food Truck Festival and Spring Wing Fling,” added Schmitz.
The event will feature exhibits such as the AG Cab Lab, an interactive tractor driving simulator where kids can get into the cab of a tractor featuring a special Video Game Screen. The AG Cab Lab is provided by the North Dakota Corn Council.
North Dakota Farm Bureau will present: Special Assignment Pizza, a five station exhibit intended to teach kids how many ingredients in their favorite food come from commodities raised in North Dakota.
But the biggest attraction of the day, will without a doubt be Darryl’s Racing Pigs. These flying “balls of bacon” will bring a new type of race to the North Fargo track, performing at 11:30, 1 pm and 2:30 pm.
In addition to interactive displays, the event will feature: pumpkin decorating (The first 200 kids to arrive will receive a free pumpkin to decorate) additional pumpkins will be available for sale for $5, equipment displays. The event is held at the same time as NDSU’s Moos, Ewes & More which runs 10-2 pm in the NDSU Equine Center on the same property.
NDSU’s event will feature: horses, sheep, dairy cows & calves, beef cows, pigs, poultry & eggs, stick horse races, animal ultrasound, youth “animal surgery” station plus more. The day’s activities will be rounded out by the “No barley, no beer” after party from 7-11pm with live music and cash bar by Shotgun Sally’s.
