Golden Eagle Hunt Seat Equestrian Earns High Point Team in Pair of Shows at Minnesota; Lead Region Going Into Winter Break

STILLWATER, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston hunt seat equestrian team had an outstanding weekend with shows Nov. 23 and 24 in Stillwater, Minn., hosted by the University of Minnesota. The Golden Eagles swept the weekend, earning High Point Team honors in both shows. Morgan Schelske (So., Zimmerman, Minn.) was named Reserve High Point Rider after Saturday’s show, while Kayley Melton (So., Yuma, Ariz.) earned Reserve High Point Rider honors on Sunday.

The Golden Eagles opened the weekend as Rachel Johnson (Jr., Stillwater, Minn.) finished second, and Melton took third in Open Fence. In Intermediate Fences, Schelske put together a phenomenal ride to place first. The Golden Eagles continued their strong opening to the show as Taylor Barlage (So., New Prague, Minn.) took first to point out of Limit Fences into Intermediate Fences.

On the Flat, Melton had a great ride to place first for the Golden Eagles, while Johnson took fourth in the Open Division.

In Intermediate Flat, Schelske had a strong ride to take second and point out of Intermediate Flat into Open Flat. In Limit Flat, Barlage took fifth, while Kristina Schroeder placed sixth and pointed out into Intermediate Flat.

In Novice Flat, Abigail Risovi (Fr., White Bear Township, Minn.) put together a strong ride to take first for the Golden Eagles.

In Pre-Novice Flat, Rebecca Clark (Fr., Austin, Minn.) led the Golden Eagles by taking second, while Mackenzie Dale (Fr., Aurora, Minn.) placed fourth.

In Introductory Flat, Savea Zimmerman-Cameron (Fr., Little Falls, Minn.) paced Minnesota Crookston by earning a second-place finish.

The Golden Eagles built on their success going into Sunday. Melton had a great ride to place first in Open Fences, while Johnson took a strong fourth-place finish.

In Intermediate Fences, Schelske placed fourth for the Golden Eagles, while Schroeder placed fourth in Limit Fences.

In Open Flat, Melton continued a great day by taking second, while Johnson placed third.

In Intermediate Flat, Schroeder led the way by having a strong second-place finish.

In Limit Flat, Sarah Cartier (Jr., Woodbury, Minn.) placed fourth the Golden Eagles. In Pre-Novice Flat, Sophie Shoemaker (Fr., Rosemount, Minn.) put together a great performance for the Golden Eagles to finish first, while Rebecca Eichhorn (So., West Bend, Wis.) placed fourth for Minnesota Crookston.

Zimmerman-Cameron rounded out the weekend with a great ride to take first in Introductory Flat.

Minnesota Crookston has taken a strong lead in the region, as they prepare to improve over the winter and come in stronger than ever for the spring portion of their schedule.

The Golden Eagles return to action Sat., Feb. 15 in a show hosted by both University of Wisconsin-River Falls and Gustavus Adolphus College in Jordan, Minn.
