Gay Polo League Gives Back to Local South Florida LGBTQ Community

Lake Worth, Fl. – Aug. 1, 2018 – Following the grand success of the 9th Annual Land Rover Palm Beach International Gay Polo Tournament this past April 2018, the Gay Polo League (GPL) has added to the legacy of the event by paying it forward to Compass LGBTQ Youth Services, the beneficiary of money raised during GPL’s “Polotini presents Wigstock” fundraising event. Thanks to the generosity of party sponsors, Ms. Patricia Quick and RBC Wealth Management, as well as all the attendees, GPL was able to donate computers to the Compass Youth Center, as well as health kits and funds to the local organization to help its powerful work with struggling youth in the South Florida LGBTQ community.

“We are so honored to play a role in furthering the message that Compass LGBTQ Youth Services foster within our local community. The organization’s ideals and programs, including promoting pride in the community, acting as an educator, advocate, health service provider, and being a focal point for community organizing, align perfectly with those of the Gay Polo League,” commented Chip McKenney, founder and President of GPL. “It is our hope that the new computers and health kits will make a positive impact on the lives of the children that Compass works so diligently to support.”
Compass Youth Services’ mission is to diminish stereotypes by challenging long-standing misconceptions about the character of the LGBTQ community. Through partnerships with GPL and other philanthropic organizations, as well as volunteers and donors, the Compass program is able to expand services through education, health services and addressing homelessness for LGBTQ youth in Palm Beach County.

“With community partners like GPL, this generous contribution has provided computers for kids coming into the center that have limited or no resources for things like scholarship applications, tutoring assistance and homework help,” said Julie Seaver, CEO for Compass LGBTQ Community Center in Lake Worth. “This additional funding for healthcare and basic hygiene items will provide these young people with confidence, while addressing the increasing need for our middle and high school-aged youth for a variety of items including healthy snacks, clothing and toiletries.”
Established in 2006, Gay Polo League is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt organization which promotes the sport of polo as a means for providing equality, pride, inclusion and confidence for those individuals who face discrimination simply due to identifying themselves as lesbian, gay, bisexual, gay or other non-traditional sexual or gender identities. The Annual Land Rover Palm Beach International Gay Polo Tournament will celebrate its 10th anniversary in 2019, returning to the iconic International Polo Club Palm Beach from Apr. 4 – Apr. 7, 2019.
