Golden Eagles Have Strong Showing at IHSA Zones; Advance to IHSA Nationals

LUBBOCK, Texas – The University of Minnesota Crookston jumping seat equestrian team competed at the IHSA Zone Championships in Lubbock, Texas Saturday, April 9 and Sunday, April 10. The Golden Eagles competed as a team and individually after winning the Regional Championship. UMN Crookston had a strong showing, led by Clara Lemarr (Fr., Sleepy Eye, Minn.) placed second in Individual Open Fences and will advance to the IHSA National Championships May 5-8 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex & Expo Center in Harrisburg, Pa.

On day one in the team competition, Keira Boedigheimer (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) took first on Sullivan in Open Fences. In Intermediate Flat, Gabi Siefkes (Fr., Aberdeen, S.D.) placed fourth on Legs. In Introductory Flat, Hannah Fitzsimmons (Jr., Barnum, Minn.) took second on Uno. In Novice Flat, Isabella Anderson (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) placed fifth on Henry.

On day two in the team competition, Siefkes placed fourth on Tango in Intermediate Fences. In Limit Fences, Alex Pfaffenbach (Jr., Appleton, Wis.) placed fifth. In Limit Flat, Alex Wentland (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) placed second on Maestro. In Open Flat, Morgan Schelske (Sr., Zimmerman, Minn.) placed second on Fancy.

Competing as an individual in Intermediate Fences, Katie Buttolph (Jr., Yankton, S.D.) took third on Snoop Dog. Schelske competed for the Golden Eagles for the Cacchione Cup and took fifth. In Limit Flat, Katie Orth (Sr., Randall, Minn.) placed fifth on Nibbs. In Open Flat, Schelske took seventh on Louie.

On the second day of competition, Lemarr highlighted the Golden Eagles by taking second on Sullivan. Schelske placed third on Tess. In Novice Flat, Kaitln Fedewa (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) placed third on Doc. In Introductory Flat, Ashleigh Lueder (So., Rochester, Minn.) placed eighth on Nibbs.
