Minnesota Crookston Hunt Seat Equestrian Opens Season with Homecoming Shows at UTOC

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston Hunt Seat Equestrian team will open up the 2017-18 competition season Sat., Sept. 30 and Oct. 1 during Homecoming weekend at the University Teaching and Outreach Center in Crookston, Minn. The show begins Sept. 30 at 1 p.m. and Oct. 1 at 9 a.m.

The Golden Eagles are in their third season under Head Coach Kayla Krueger. They are coming off of a season in which they were the Reserve Champion squad at the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Regional Championships in March. In addition, Mazie Pini (Jr., Grayslake, Ill.) and Selena Young (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) competed at the IHSA Zone Championships. Pini would go on to the IHSA National Championships, where she placed 11thnationally. Pini and Young both return to lead the Minnesota Crookston squad.

Pini will competed in Open Equitation Over Fences and Open Flat for the Golden Eagles, as will Young. Monika Frame (Sr., Polson, Mont.) and Rachel Johnson (Fr., Stillwater, Minn.) will also compete in those disciplines.

Megan Motter will ride in Novice Equitation Over Fences and Intermediate Flat for the U of M Crookston. Madeline Haeg and Ellie Waagen are both set to make their collegiate debuts in Novice Equitation over Fences and Novice Flat.

Kristina Schroeder will take the show pen in Advanced Walk/Trot/Canter. Melissa Eastman, Sierra Coons, Megan Doughty and Sarah Cartier will compete in Beginner Walk/Trot/Canter. Amanda Olson rounds out the field for the Golden Eagles in Beginner Walk/Trot.

Minnesota Crookston will compete against University of Wisconsin-River Falls, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, University of Minnesota, North Dakota State University, St. Cloud State University and Lakehead University.
