Return to the Show Ring Proves Rewarding for Winner of the Vita Flex Victory Pass Award at High Prairie Dressage Show

Parker, CO (June 14, 2017) – Picturesque snow-peaked Rocky Mountains provided the perfect backdrop for amateur dressage competitor Cameron Martin as she entered the show ring for the first time in five years. She and her handsome buckskin gelding, Dakota, made the most out of their comeback – winning their Second Level test at the High Prairie Dressage I, II, III, and CDI show held June 2 – 4 at The Colorado Horse Park in Parker, Colorado. Vita Flex, leading producer of equine performance supplements and a sponsor of The Colorado Horse Park, kicked off the 2017 summer show series by awarding the standout pair with the Vita Flex Victory Pass Award.

“Dakota was right there for me whenever I asked for something in the test; he doesn’t get nervous at all,” said Martin, who was thrilled to win the Vita Flex Victory Pass Award for her precise ride down centerline. “I really got show nerves after not showing for so long, and for me to think thoughtfully ‘through’ my test while I was ‘in’ the test, was huge.” Martin and Dakota, a 17-year-old Appendix Quarter Horse, rode away with the blue ribbon, and, in addition to earning a top score of 64.878 percent, also took home a prize bucket overflowing with popular Vita Flex® performance products and an official Victory Pass Award ribbon for their winning performance.

Official Sponsor and Partner of The Colorado Horse Park, Vita Flex is pleased to continue advancing its support of equestrian competitions like the many dressage, jumping, and eventing shows held at Colorado’s premier facility. Vita Flex will present select class winners with the Vita Flex Victory Pass Award for riders’ excellence in the spotlight and demonstration of the company’s steadfast mission of crossing the fine line between good and great.

Earning a top score with Dakota was especially meaningful for Martin, as she acquired the horse as a two-year-old many years ago. She was also excited to achieve such notable success after a multi-year hiatus from competition. Although she never took a break from enjoying time in the saddle, Martin, from Eagle, Colorado, had to take some time off from the show ring. “I went to paramedic school, met my husband and got married, and bought a house. But I’ve decided that this is my year to go back to showing! My horse isn’t getting any younger.”

Martin and Dakota achieved their Second Level win in a large class of horses and riders. They went on to earn two second place finishes and one third throughout the weekend. Training with Anita Williams, also from Eagle, Colorado, Martin will continue to campaign Dakota throughout the summer and fall. “We qualified for the Regional Championships at Second Level so we will be at The Colorado Horse Park for the Championships in September.

“Dakota is the love of my life,” Martin added. “He is my kid, and he is such a good boy. He will do anything I ask of him at any time, no questions asked. I think he enjoys the work because we enjoy spending time together.”

As Martin sets her sights on earning her USDF Bronze medal, maintaining Dakota’s health and welfare will be a top priority. She is eager to integrate some of her new Vita Flex Victory Award prize products, especially the Vita Flex® Equinyl™ Combo with Hyaluronic Acid Joint Formula, into his daily feeding program. “Dakota is so healthy and in such good shape, but he has reached the age where I need to look at joint health, especially if we are going to be competing at Second Level.

“It would just mean so much to earn my Bronze medal; we have been through so much together,” she added. “Dakota has seen me through high school, college, paramedic school, every good day, every bad day; he’s been my steady companion for half of my life.”

Proud to be a part of the exciting activity at the Colorado Horse Park this summer, Vita Flex looks forward to continuing to recognize excellent horse and rider combinations like Martin and Dakota with the Vita Flex Victory Pass Award.
