UMC Western Equestrian Opens Up 2016-17 Slate with Pair of Home Shows Saturday and Sunday

CROOKSTON, Minn. – The University of Minnesota Crookston western equestrian team will officially open up the 2016-17 schedule with a pair of home shows at University Teaching and Outreach Center Sat., Oct. 22 at 1 p.m. and Sun., Oct. 23 at 9 a.m.

Minnesota Crookston is looking to build off their Reserve Regional Team Championship last season as they embark on the 2016-17 slate.

On Saturday, Cathy Ackroyd will compete in both reining and Open Horsemanship Section 2. Madeline Drayna and Anna Johnson will compete for UMC in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 1. Jayde Proffitt will be in Beginner Horsemanship Section 1. Katelynn Robertson will compete in Novice Horsemanship Section 1. Whitney Weidenborner will represent the Golden Eagles in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 2. Katie Warner will compete for UMC in Advanced Horsemanshp Section 1. Skyla Knudtson will take part in Intermediate I Horsemanship Section 1, while Shayla Marthaler will compete in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 3. Hannah Van Dyke will represent the Golden Eagles in Novice Horsemanship Section 2, while EmmaRae Nelson will compete for UMC in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 4.

Sunday, the Golden Eagles will have a couple student-athletes compete in different sections. Marthaler will compete in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 2 on Sunday. Weidenborner will represent the Golden Eagles in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 3. Johnson will participate in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 4 on Sunday. Sarah Zellmer will make her UMC debut on the weekend on Sunday in Intermediate II Horsemanship Section 4.

Minnesota Crookston will hope to get off to a strong start as they enter an always tough slate in the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA). Their home show will help prepare the team heading into their second weekend Nov. 5 and 6 at North Dakota State University.
