Golden Eagles Earn Reserve High Point Team Saturday and High Point Team Sunday at Wisconsin-River Falls

RIVER FALLS, Wis. – The University of Minnesota Crookston hunt seat equestrian team competed last weekend in a pair of shows at the University of Wisconsin-River Falls in River Falls, Wis. The Golden Eagles earned Reserve High Point Team honors on Saturday and improved their standing Sunday, by taking the High Point Team Title.

“Our returners have entered competition season stronger than ever,” said Head Coach Kayla Krueger. “Our freshman faced their first competition head on and had great determination. This team set the bar high for their first weekend out and I am excited to see what they continue to bring to the arena.”

Saturday’s show started out with strong with Monika Frame (Jr., Polson, Mont.) winning her Open Equitation over Fences class on a challenging horse. Selena Young (So., Plymouth, Minn.) followed suit winning her Intermediate Over Fences class with a well-ridden course. Marta Dean (So., White Bear Lake, Minn.) had a solid course in her Novice Equitation over Fences class with a strong third-place finish.

Frame and Mazie Pini (So., Grayslake, Ill.) had strong rides in their flat classes, finishing third and fourth respectively. Young and Rhiannon Nicoll (Jr., Rice, Minn.) also rode in a competitive class of Intermediate Equitation on the Flat. Young finished third, while Nicoll finished fourth.

Freshman Katie Perivolotis (Fr., Littleton, Mass.) finished fifth in her division of Novice Equiation on the Flat, while Megan Motter (So., Cooperstown, N.D.) earned fourth in her division. Both Lauren Green and Julianna Langlois (So., Hermantown, Minn.) finished third in their Novice Equitation on the Flat classes.

Freshman Kristina Schroeder (Mankato, Minn.) rode to a beautiful first-place finish on her first time out in her class of Beginning Walk Trot Canter. Megan Doughty (Fr., Hackensack, Minn.) and Marissa Mancillas (Sr., Brooksville, Fla.) rode to fifth-place finishes in their division of Walk-Trot, while Emma Howey (So., Rutland, N.D.) finished fourth.

On Sunday, the Golden Eagles would start out similarly with Frame continuing her winning streak in the Open Fences class. Pini and Young followed suit with beautiful rides in Intermediate Fences with Young finishing second and Pini coming in third.

Nicoll put out a consistent ride in her Novice Equitation over Fences class, finishing second with freshman Emma Orndorf (Fr., Minneapolis, Minn.) coming in second. Motter completed a very accurate Novice Fences course for a second-place finish on her second fence course of her riding career.

Pini found her stride in the Open Fences class to finish first on a challenging draw for a horse. Frame, also rode in that class, finishing fifth. Young and Nicoll continued their success in the second day of Intermediate Flat competition with Nicoll finishing fifth and Young finishing third.

Motter and Orndorf were both fourth in their Novice Flat divisions. Langlois had a flawless ride in her Advanced Walk Trot Canter class, dominating the competition and riding to a well-deserved win. Green followed right behind to also win her Beginner Walk Trot Canter class. Doughty finished fourth in her Walk Trot class with Mancillas coming in third. Howey would have a solid ride in her Walk Trot class finishing first.
