Coalition of State Horse Councils Fall Meeting Approaching
Annual Fall meeting to be held in Kansas City from October 28-30
(Washington, DC)- Representatives of State Horse Councils and the American Horse Council will meet in Kansas City from October 28-30 for the annual Coalition of State Horse Councils fall meeting. AHC President Julie Broadway will also be attending to give an update on issues that the AHC has been working on and how the State Horse Councils and AHC can continue to work together to ensure that there is a favorable legislative environment for the equine industry at both state and federal levels.
“Several incumbent members of Congress have already been upset in their primary elections in their home states and others are locked in tight races with their challengers,” said AHC President Julie Broadway. “So now is more important than ever to make sure the AHC and its State Horse Council members are working together to ‘put a face with a name’ and educate both state and federal governments on the importance of the equine industry to their respective members of Congress.”
As this years’ host, the Kansas Horse Council has assembled an exceptional range of speakers to address pertinent topics related to:
- Forming effective non-profit boards and dealing with compliance issues such as the “Do’s and Don’ts to Maintain 501c3 Compliance;.”
- A four person panel discussion on “What’s Ahead for Equine Owners?” presented by Drs. Davis, Grady, Lutter and Beard of the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine;
- And a multi-user panel discussion with representatives from both federal and state land management, Back Country Horsemen, hiking, biking and ATV users, to discuss multi-user trail issues and how groups can work together better to perform trail maintenance work, host multi-user functions, and better respect one another.
“We also wanted to include several genuine Kansas experiences for our attendees,” said Kansas Horse Council Executive Director Pattie Stalder. “We will have an exhibition by the Fort Riley Commanding General’s Mounted Color Guard; a review of the cutting edge National Bio and Agro-defense Facility; a meeting with the Hutchinson Correctional Facility and overview of their innovative Kansas Wild Horse Program in which inmates train wild horses as part of a rehabilitation program; and some interesting equine history from Rob Kornacki who will provide the thoroughly engrossing story of ‘Comanche, Famed Equine Survivor of Custer’s Last Stand,’ who is famously on display at the Kansas University Natural History Museum.”
