Fargo Horse Racing wraps successful 2016 meet this weekend

FARGO – Please plan to join us at the North Dakota Horse Park on Saturday, July 30 and Sunday, July 31 for the last and most lucrative horse races in North Dakota of 2016.

Special events will be held throughout the two days including Kids Day on Saturday and Sunday’s Cowboy up for Cancer event that will raise money for Fargo’s own Roger Maris Cancer Center.

After a year hiatus, racing returned to Fargo with a six-day meet on Saturday, July 23 with roaring crowds and a successful handle. The 2016 race meet sets the stage for the “Little Track on the Prairie” to be a successful attraction and family fun event for years to come.

The nine races on Saturday and Sunday, which begin at 1 p.m. both days, will feature the best-of-the-best horses competing for a pot of purses that far exceed those held the first two weekends.

Saturday is Kids Day. The first 250 kids through the gates will get a free meal from Texas Roadhouse. The first 150 kids will receive a bonus toy.

With kids’ games on the grounds throughout the day, they’ll need to pause for the Mascot Race, when area mascots including Bob95FM, Tutti Fruitti and North Dakota National Guard GI Johnny, take to the gates and compete in a foot race down the track.

Sunday, NDHP will close out the meet by focusing on Cowboy Up for Cancer.  Guests will have their chance to win their very own jockey silk, worn by the NDHP jockeys throughout the meet as part of a silent auction. Proceeds from the silent auction will be given to Cowboy up For Cancer, which benefits the Roger Maris Cancer Center.
